The Great Bread Company
The Great Bread Company began in 1993, when the current owner’s parents decided they needed a change from the corporate work world and decided to learn the art of bread making and start a new business.
They traveled to France, learned about dough and techniques, purchased a 100 year old sourdough starter, transported it back to the US, along with a stone hearth oven, and started baking. They originally set up shop in Holland in 1992 as a bakery café. In 2006, Kim Meyers, along with her husband Jeff, purchased the bakery from them and moved it to the current baking facility in Allendale. Their breads are free from any additional preservatives or additives and are sold at over 20 farmers markets throughout the year, along with artisan markets and special events. Their most popular bread varieties at the Holland Farmers Market include their sourdough, cinnamon swirl, asiago, and jalapeno cheddar.
