Join the Holland Farmers Market for the first installment of Market School on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 am to learn all about the hobby of beekeeping from expert beekeeper Donald Lam!
Did you know that one-third of our food sources rely on honeybees? Including most of the products you’ll find at the Holland Farmers Market? During this informative class, beekeeper Donald Lam from the Holland Area Beekeepers Association will share the ins and outs of beekeeping as a hobby. Whether you’re simply curious about how bees or are considering starting your own hive, this class will cover the essentials of beekeeping as a hobby, including the equipment you’ll need, available support resources, startup costs, and the many rewards of raising bees.
You’ll also explore the different types of bees within a hive, the different varieties of honey, the many roles of worker bees, and important information about bee stings and hive safety. If you’ve ever thought about becoming a beekeeper, this is the perfect place to start!
About the Host
Beekeeper Donald Lam and his wife have been keeping honeybees for 35 years in the Holland area. In addition to leading classes, they provide polllination services for growers, produce honey that is available in local stores, and provide bees and equipment to area beekeepers. About Market School
Join the Holland Farmers Market all summer long for our Market School classes! These fun and affordable series of classes are held on the fourth Saturday of the month from June through September. Topics include beekeeping, sourdough baking, healthy cooking, and more, with all sessions hosted by local experts and friends of the Market!
Classes are $20 each and are held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on the last Saturday of the month in the upstairs Market View room inside the Holland Civic Center at 150 West 8th Street. Advanced registration is recommended as space is limited, however, walk-ins are welcome if space allows. All Market School attendees will also receive a free insulated tote bag from the Holland Farmers Market, a $10 value!
